About the event
What has happened to the oral tradition with the rise of literacy and what has this done to poetry? What can Shakespeare teach us about re-enchantment in an age of collapse? Poet and author Pete (the Temp) Bearder is invited to talk about his scholarship on live performance, the craft of stage poetry and what he calls “the applied poetics of enchantment”.
Pete is a spoken word poet, loop station artist and comic whose mission is to incite a spirit of carnival, wonderment and riotous love. His lyrics touch on themes of madness, philosophy and civil unrest, with the help of loop machines and FX machinery.
Pete’s work has been featured on BBC Radio 4, Newsnight and the World Service. He is a former Hammer & Tongue UK Poetry Slam champion and has performed in over 15 countries with organisations that include The British Council. He is currently touring an absurdist-interactive-devotional stage show with his band - Pete the Temp & the Vibe Mechanics.
